You
You are a person, a human being, a unique individual. You may be unable to follow a prescribed set of instructions about what to do, how to grow, how to be truly happy, how to be profitable or at one with your existence. Maybe you never received your copy of, ‘How to live your life in the best way for you’ or ‘How to run your business so that it’s profitable, enjoyable and doesn’t stress you out’.
There are probably plenty of other ideal books you could imagine, perfectly tailored to your specific situation - if only someone had written them! Frequently the subjects of the coaching will be all of these things and more. Many people recognise that we are holistic beings and the various strands of our lives are inter-related.
So, whilst we talk of business coaching, life coaching, executive or career coaching, it is often not as cut and dried as that. You may well find that the coaching conversations cover many different areas, depending on what is pertinent to you.
Start up or Small Business owner / entrepreneur
As I have much experience in this sector many of my clients are small business owners or entrepreneurs. People who are self employed or run their own business tend to have a particular energy, a hunger, a desire to succeed - to grow their business and to be the best they can be.
However, they often have little or no support and feel stressed out, isolated. They can lose sight of their goals and why they started the business in the first place. Underlying it can be the feeling that, although the ingredients are there, somehow something isn’t quite right and maybe some simple changes could improve everything. But what to change?
Maybe that isn’t you. Perhaps your business is great and you love every minute of it. Well good for you – bottle that up and sell it! But there’s bound to be something more you want from it. More time off, to grow to the next level, to take on new employees, to float on the stock exchange and buy an island somewhere near Branson’s.
Individual
I coach people. In the words of Jean Paul Sartre, “Everything has been figured out, except how to live.” Whether you are self employed, working in a big company, unemployed or a student, primarily you are a human being with your own particular challenges and desires – and your own solutions.
It is these solutions that our coaching conversations will seek. Anyone can benefit from coaching, even coaches (especially coaches)!
Corporate
People at any level within a corporate environment can see rewards from a coaching conversation. Whether we discuss the intricacies of your particular role, the politics or values of your company, or your place within it, coaching can help you to accept, improve and redefine your job.
Whatever position you hold within the company, you have to inter-relate with people and tasks in an efficient and productive manner. You may well also need to prepare reports, presentations, strategies or identify goals and directions for your company or team. All of these subjects can benefit from being discussed within the coaching environment, whether the focus is on your particular place within the company or more about the company itself and how to improve some aspect of it.
